About Hunt Injury Law

Small by design. Serious about your case.

We represent people in New York and New Jersey after serious injuries. We’re not a high-volume firm, and we don’t want to be. We take on fewer cases so you get the attention you deserve, from an attorney who knows your case and handles it personally.

Our story

Built to fight for the little guy.

Jim Hunt founded Hunt Injury Law after training in Big Law. He saw firsthand the difference a lawyer can make when an injured person is going up against a large company or insurer. He also saw what happens when people, including family and friends, have to face that process without someone in their corner. That stayed with him.

We’ll stand up and fight for you. We’ll also be straightforward with you every step of the way. After an accident, you may be dealing with a lot of uncertainty and stress, including medical bills and missed paychecks. We handle the legal side and don’t lose sight of the practical one.

How we work

Not an assembly line.

You get an attorney’s phone number, not a case number.
We explain what’s happening in plain English, every time.
You get the preparation of a large firm without being treated like a volume file.

We work from two offices: Rochelle Park in Bergen County, New Jersey, and 5 Penn Plaza in Manhattan. Most people never need to visit either one — we can do everything by phone and email — but you are welcome to come in.

Our attorneys

Lawyers who used to work for the other side.

Our attorneys have backgrounds in corporate defense and insurance defense. They’ve spent years learning how the other side evaluates claims and looks for weaknesses. They now use that experience to help you.

Founder

Jim founded the firm after training in Big Law. He stays hands-on with his cases because he cares about the people behind them. When you work with Jim, you work directly with an attorney who takes your situation personally. And if your case needs to go to trial, he’ll be there to try it.

How a case runs

What happens after you call.

Every claim is different, and yours may not follow this exact path. But most injury claims move through the same five stages.

  • 01

    The first call

You tell us what happened, in your own words. You don’t need a police report or any other paperwork ready. We’ll tell you honestly whether we think we can help.

  • 02

    Investigation

We collect the police report, photographs, available camera footage, witness details and your medical records. We notify the insurers, so their calls come to us instead of you.

  • 03

    Treatment and documentation

Your job is to focus on your recovery. Ours is to document what the injury has actually cost you: medical treatment, time off work and the things you can no longer do.

  • 04

    The demand and the negotiation

Once we understand the full effects of your injury, we present the claim to the insurer with the evidence behind it. Most negotiations happen at this stage. We’ll tell you what’s on the table before you decide what to do.

  • 05

Suit, and trial if it comes to that

Most claims settle. If the offer doesn’t reflect what happened to you, we file suit and prepare the case for trial. An insurer’s position can change once it sees that we’re prepared to take the case all the way.

These cases can take time, especially when a case needs to go to court. We’ll be upfront about that from the start and keep you informed along the way. There is no cost to find out if we can help, and you pay nothing unless we recover money for you.
